  • Monika Kubíková, BSc.
    ICU Sister/ Charge nurse
    Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust
    Monika has over 25 years of experience as a specialist nurse in the anesthesiology and intensive care unit. She spent nearly nine years working in Bratislava before continuing her profession in Kent, England. Her extensive experience offers a unique perspective on nursing practice and the differences in the nursing role between Slovakia and abroad.
  • Katarina Morris, BSc.
    BSc in Nursing Care, Specialist Nurse in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Professional Nurse Advocate
    Katarína studied at the Secondary Medical School in Levoča. After graduating, she worked for 3 years as a Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit in the Czech Republic. She is currently working as a Specialist Nurse in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in the United Kingdom, where she has lived for 21 years. Her main responsibilities include supporting families in difficult situations and facilitating communication with doctors. She also runs a counseling service for patients recovering from critical illness and provides supportive/restorative clinical supervision for nurses and other healthcare professionals. Her career and studies focus mainly on psychology, communication, emotional support, and palliative care.
  • MUDr. Martin Kršák, MSc, FASAM
    Martin Kršák is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. His primary areas of expertise include orthopedic infections and infectious complications associated with substance use, including non-sterile injections and related behaviors and circumstances (such as commercial sex work, homelessness, and incarceration).

    Before joining the faculty in Colorado, he served as an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Addiction Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. During that time, he worked at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts—a state public health department hospital serving indigent, incarcerated, marginalized, and substance-using populations.

    Dr. Kršák’s additional professional interests include the broader use of telemedicine and long-acting medications, as well as the impact of medical interventions on public health and the economics of healthcare across various settings, including prison systems.

    Martin Kršák grew up in Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia) and earned his MD from the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Martin, Slovakia. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Caritas (later Steward) Carney Hospital in Dorchester, MA (a Tufts University-affiliated hospital), and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases through the Tufts University program (Tufts Medical Center, Lahey Hospital, and Lemuel Shattuck Hospital). He also earned a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Science at Tufts and is currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Colorado in Denver.
  • Ondrej Obediar, BSc.MSc.
    Director of a charitable organization, Head of Health and Wellbeing, Psychologist – Counselor, Psychotherapist, and University Lecturer at LTU, specializing in health and social care and mental health programs. Ondrej is originally from Slovakia and studied at universities in Liverpool and Salford, earning a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and an MSc in Applied Psychology (Therapies), a postgraduate diploma from LJMU, and another postgraduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Chrysalis Institute. Since completing his studies, he has successfully worked as a career coach for the NHS. He is the Head of Health and Wellbeing and Director of the organization Growing Togetherness CIC. He also runs a private practice based in Manchester. His professional interests focus on how nature supports individual mental health, workplace stress, and how lifestyle coaching can help people transition to a more sustainable and fulfilling way of life.

    He is the Chair of the Slovak Catholic Mission for Northwest England and is involved in the integration of the Slovak Roma community in Leeds and Bradford.

    He has proven experience in organizing and participating in cultural, social, and national events in collaboration with embassies.

  • MUDr. Jakub Rybár
    Jakub Rybár graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University. He worked at the National Oncology Institute and at Medissimo Hospital, where he obtained a specialization in surgery. He subsequently held positions as Director of Medissimo Hospital, Novapharm Hospital, and AGEL Faculty Hospital in Skalica. He is currently a member of the board of AGEL Faculty Hospital in Skalica and Radiology s.r.o., as well as the Director of AGEL Clinic Bratislava. Within the AGEL Group, he is involved in development projects in the fields of telemedicine and robotics.
  • MUDr. Marcela Uhliarova, MRCGP
    Dr. Marcela Uhliarová graduated from the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Slovakia in 2009. After university, she worked as a junior doctor at the hospital in Malacky. In 2013, she moved to the United Kingdom, where she served as a clinical fellow in a busy Emergency Department at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, gaining valuable experience in the workings of the National Health Service (NHS). In 2015, she entered the GP specialty training program in the West Midlands region and successfully completed rotations in old-age psychiatry, elderly care, pediatrics, and general practice. Dr. Uhliarová qualified as a General Practitioner in 2018 and has since been working as an in-house doctor in Kenilworth. Together with her husband, Marek Trnka, she opened a clinic in Balsall Common offering private GP services and a longevity clinic focused on disease prevention.
  • MUDr. Katarína Lenártová, PhD, FCAI, EDIC
    Katarína Lenártová comes from Horné Vestenice. After studying medicine at the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava, she worked at the hospital in Bojnice. After a year and a half, she decided to take on a new challenge and moved to Ireland for work, later continuing on to the United Kingdom. Since 2016, she has been working in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Harefield Hospital near London, a facility specializing in heart and lung surgeries and transplants. Katarína Lenártová is a doctor specializing in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. When choosing her specialty after medical school, it was important for her to be prepared to respond quickly and effectively in acute situations — and anesthesiology was the perfect fit.

    In her current role, she is particularly involved in heart and lung transplants. According to her, accompanying a patient through this journey is incredibly fascinating. Every workday is different and varied — not always cheerful, but this is part of the demanding yet deeply fulfilling nature of her job. Outside of her professional life, Katarína is also a caring mother of two children.
  • MA, Lenka Janík Blašková, PhD., CPsychol, FHEA, AFBPsS
    Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS)
    Lenka works as an Assistant Professor and lectures in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Applied Psychology, Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava. She is a trained counselling psychologist, a licensed psychologist, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where she also served as a university assistant on various research projects, including the training of cardiologists.

    Lenka’s research interests focus on the intersection of mental health, social inclusion, and interpersonal relationships. She is currently involved in several projects aimed at supporting the mental well-being of helping professionals and teachers, as well as developing their skills in fostering the social and emotional capacities of children and young people. She has long-term collaborations with the League for Mental Health in Slovakia and the Irish organization SHEP (Social and Health Education Project).
  • MUDr. Edita Searle, MRCPsych
    Edita Otáhalová Searle works as a specialist doctor in adult psychiatry within the Early Intervention in Psychosis Team at the Gloucestershire Health and Care Trust. She completed her medical studies at the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. She moved to the United Kingdom in 2011 and worked as an adult psychiatrist at Sussex Partnership until 2019.

    After relocating to Gloucestershire, she became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and plans to resume advanced training. In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in research, teaching medical students and junior doctors, as well as participating in admissions interviews for medical schools.
  • MUDr. Mgr. Helena Aziri, MRCPsych
    Helena is a consultant psychiatrist at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Before moving to the United Kingdom in 2012, she completed her medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, alongside a master’s degree in French language and literature and marketing communication at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University. She worked at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University Hospital in Bratislava, where she was involved in research on schizophrenia.

    She is currently collaborating on a project focused on treatment-resistant schizophrenia with Professor David Taylor of King’s College London. In her daily practice, she supervises medical students and doctors in training. She is the founder of the Association of Slovak Healthcare Professionals in the United Kingdom. Helena is also a member of the Czech and Slovak Club in the UK.
  • Imrich Berta
    Imrich is a graduate of Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, with experience in machine learning models for disease prediction. He currently works as a consultant for the Slovak government in the fields of cancer epidemiology and public health. He actively mentors analysts and organizes coding workshops for students.
  • Laura Johanesová
    Laura is a bioinformatician and biomedical scientist currently based at the University of Vienna. Her skills in R, Linux, and Python are essential to her research on regeneration. She also works as a data scientist at the startup Seerlinq.
  • MUDr. Peter Lehocký
    After studying medicine in Martin, he worked at the Department of Surgery in Martin until 2023, when he left for Germany in search of new opportunities. There, he worked at two hospitals — in Sangerhausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen — and since 2021 he has been a member of Professor Hermann’s team in Vienna. His work focuses on endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, neuroendocrine tumors, extended lymphadenectomies in thyroid cancer), oncologic surgery (gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, bile ducts, thyroid), minimally invasive surgery, and the use of ultrasound in surgery. Surgery is his secret passion.

Ondrej Obediar, psychologist practicing in the UK
Ondrej studied at the Universities of Liverpool and Salford where he graduated with a BSc Hons in Psychology and an MSc in Applied Psychology (Therapy).
After graduating he has successfully worked as a career coach for the NHS. He is our Health and Wellbeing Leader and also a Gardener at Seedley Park Pavilion Allotments, Gardens and Café.

The maximum amount of the grant is EUR 119.851,20

Project outputs:
1) to create a permanent conference in Slovakia, which will take place once a year, on the same date in Slovakia, with the participation of the Slovak diaspora working in the field of healthcare and social services abroad, for:

  • deepening existing relationships and expanding networks,
  • exchanging current information, experience and know-how in the field of education and professional approaches used in healthcare and social services,
  • presenting modern workplaces and innovations in Slovakia, as well as abroad,
  • presenting current opportunities in the field of career involvement and improving qualifications in Slovakia in the fields of healthcare and social services,
  • presenting information that may be helpful in terms of legislative support, when returning to Slovakia or engaging in work and educational activities in Slovakia.

2) organize meetings between representatives of the academic sector of Slovak universities and universities abroad, in which Slovak experts living abroad in the field of health and social services are represented, to establish possible cooperation, with a frequency set at least once a year, 1 Annex No. 1

3) organize meetings between representatives of practitioners and healthcare management with healthcare professionals and managers - Slovaks working abroad in the field of healthcare and social services, for the exchange of information and sharing of know-how with Slovak experts, with a frequency of at least 1 x per year,

4) organize round tables for discussion of the outcomes of implemented events and setting the plan for subsequent activities, with a frequency of 1 x per year after the conference for setting cooperation for the following year,

5) organize the first webinars, mainly for university students, but also for the professional public, led by Slovak experts working abroad, on the topics of supporting mental health and developing soft skills of doctors, healthcare professionals and social service workers.
