About the Event
The main goal of the meeting is to present the experiences of Slovak experts working abroad in addressing the shortage of healthcare personnel and to initiate a constructive discussion on education and employment opportunities for the Roma community, particularly the younger generation. The Slovak diaspora, which is well acquainted with the environments of both countries, will offer targeted proposals with high development potential for the domestic system.

Expert Speakers
Ondrej Obediar, BSc, MSc. Senior Executive Coach, academic leader, and founder of the Aureus Leadership platform. He serves as director of the nonprofit organization Growing Togetherness CIC in the United Kingdom, where he bridges community work, mental health, and ecopsychology. As a lecturer and module leader at GBS in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, he focuses on innovation in nursing and healthcare education. He is an expert on integrating low-skilled foreign workers into the system and engaging lower-skilled staff in the British healthcare system.
PhDr. Bc. Mikuláš Lakatoš, M.A. Analyst of inclusive health policies and university professor. Expert on public policies focused on health, social inclusion, and Roma communities. He works at the Office of the Slovak Government Plenipotentiary for Roma Communities and also teaches at the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava. In 2023, he received the prestigious Young European of the Year award for his contributions to the development of inclusive policies and the promotion of health among marginalized communities.

- Ondrej Obediar – “From Training to the Renaissance of Slovak Nursing” A presentation of experiences from projects in the United Kingdom that, following Brexit, helped integrate marginalized groups into the healthcare system. The presentation will offer proposed solutions for Slovakia, possibilities for systemic changes, and the use of caregiver training as a starting point.
- Mikuláš Lakatoš – “From Barriers to Opportunities” Opportunities for supporting healthcare education and employment for Roma in the Slovak healthcare system. Exploring ways to engage the Roma community as a win-win solution for healthcare, employment, education, and social inclusion in Slovakia.
