Another successful event within the project “Permanent Conference of Healthcare Professionals in Slovakia”
The International Association of Doctors and Healthcare Professionals of Slovakia (MALnS) last week organised, for the second time, one of the largest events of its kind for Slovak healthcare professionals working abroad — the Career and Educational Opportunities Fair.
The event focused on presenting the professional and educational opportunities offered by Slovak healthcare facilities and educational institutions, with special emphasis on non-physician healthcare staff, especially the much-needed nurses. Its aim was to support the return of Slovak healthcare professionals from abroad, while also showing them concrete opportunities for employment at home, as well as possible fields of activity in Slovakia from abroad.
The fair was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic as part of the second prestigious MediFutura event, which focuses on students of healthcare-related fields and their professional future in Slovakia. The main motto of the event was #ZOSTAN na Slovensku — “Stay in Slovakia” — which, through our involvement, we expanded with the call #VRÁŤ SA — “Come Back” — for healthcare professionals working abroad.
The event was attended by Slovak doctors and nurses working in the United Kingdom. Among our distinguished guests was also Prof. Yuriy Kryvko, Rector of the Andrey Krupynskyi Lviv Medical Academy, who arrived in Bratislava the day before the event to sign a Memorandum of International Cooperation with the Rector of the Slovak Medical University, Dr. h. c. Prof. MUDr. Peter Šimko, CSc.
Important discussions also took place with the leadership of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives — President Iveta Lazorová, Director of the Office Lukáš Kober — as well as with Ondrej Obediar, a prominent Slovak psychologist working in Manchester and a representative of the partner association ASHCPUK. The aim of these negotiations was to find solutions for stabilising the nursing workforce based on international experience.
During the event, the Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic, Kamil Šaško, together with colleagues from the ministry, also stopped by our stand for a brief discussion. The outcome of this discussion was an invitation for MALnS representatives to a personal meeting aimed at simplifying the process of integrating foreign nurses into Slovakia’s healthcare system.
In addition to these “major” meetings, we of course also held many short discussions and exchanged contacts, which will form the basis for future cooperation and the exchange of experience between Slovaks living abroad and their home country.
Participants appreciated the opportunity for personal meetings and open discussion about employment opportunities in Slovakia. The positive feedback confirms that similar activities are highly valuable and can bring real results.
MALnS therefore expresses its wish to build on this successful cooperation and to participate in further events in the future that support the return of professionals from abroad and strengthen Slovak healthcare.
