The Department of Health, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, is streamlining the conditions for recognizing the higher education of Ukrainian nurses in Slovakia. The changes will make it easier for nurses from Ukraine to join the healthcare system in Slovakia and thus help to increase the number of nurses.
"We have decided to take measures that will allow Ukrainian nurses to achieve recognition of their education faster and easier and to join clinics and hospitals. In case of interest, Ukrainian nurses can thus reach patients faster, use their education and experience and thus strengthen the Slovak healthcare system," said Minister of Health Michal Palkovič.

Nurses with a bachelor's degree from Ukraine will send the necessary documents to the Ministry of Education, which will decide within two months on the imposition of the aptitude test - professional practice. The exam, which consists only of the practical part, will be provided by the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava (SZU). The applicant completes professional clinical practice in various departments in hospitals - neonatal, gynecological, ICU, OIAM and others. Subsequently, the SZU will send the protocol on passing the aptitude test to the Department of Education, and within a month it will issue a decision on the recognition of the educational document.
This is followed by a supplementary exam at SZU, which applicants take in written and oral form in the Slovak language. It will be possible even without completing a temporary professional internship with a health care provider. After a successful supplementary exam, the applicant will apply for recognition of the professional qualification to the Ministry of Education, which will decide within one month. Subsequently, applicants can practice the profession of a nurse and will also be given the opportunity to continue their master's degree in nursing.
This is followed by a supplementary exam at SZU, which applicants take in written and oral form in the Slovak language. It will be possible even without completing a temporary professional internship with a health care provider. After a successful supplementary exam, the applicant will apply for recognition of the professional qualification to the Ministry of Education, which will decide within one month. Subsequently, applicants can practice the profession of a nurse and will also be given the opportunity to continue their master's degree in nursing.

An applicant who has obtained a professional qualification for the performance of the medical profession of a practical nurse - assistant and who has obtained a nurse's education in a bachelor's degree in the territory of Ukraine shall apply and send the application and the necessary documents on the education obtained to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic, which will issue The decision to impose the aptitude test within two months.
2. The aptitude test will be provided by the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava. The exam consists only of a practical part.
3. The Slovak Medical University in Bratislava will draw up a protocol on the competency test, which it will send to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic.
4. It is possible to take the supplementary exam even without completing a temporary professional internship.
5. The supplementary exam at the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava is conducted in the Slovak language, in written and oral form.
